Below are the three key things we recommend you prioritise to get you started.
Your Company Profile
What is it?
Your company profile outlines all the key information a potential client, business partner, or investor would want to know about your company. Essentially, it’s the ‘About Us’ calling card that helps people get to know who you are, what you do, and why you do it.
Why it matters
A company profile helps you build credibility, showcase your unique expertise, and attract the right types of clients and partners to work with you. It’s an important tool that allows you to tell your story and showcase your brand, company values, and commitment to what matters most.
What to include
Company name and ‘tagline’ (if you have one, don’t worry if you haven’t just yet).
Key personnel, including company owners/founders and core team.
A bit of backstory about who you are and how the company got started.
Key registration, safety and certifications information.
Key contact information.
As you grow, you might also want to add:
A company mission and vision statement.
Links to social media accounts.
Achievements and awards.
A Capabilities Statement
What is it?
A capabilities statement concisely highlights your company's qualifications, experience, and unique strengths. It’s often used when bidding for government contracts, tenders, or large private projects to demonstrate that you have the skills, resources, and capacity to complete the work.
Why it matters
A capabilities statement builds on your company profile more tangibly. Alongside the ‘who’ and ‘why’ of your company profile, a capabilities statement clearly communicates what your company does, what makes it different, and why clients should choose you. This helps build trust with potential clients and project procurement decision makers.
What to include
This is where you’ll want to hone in on the specifics of the work you do and projects you’ve completed. You don’t need to include every project you’ve worked on, but a good overview of key successes and the types of projects you’re keen to do more of will set you up nicely.
Remember to mention:
The types of services you offer and projects you take on, with examples and photos where available.
Construction licenses and industry certifications, especially anything that sets you apart from other construction companies.
Any construction specialties the company delivers on.
Health, safety, and environmental policies.
Client testimonials where you have them.
Anything that sets you apart from your competitors (e.g., safety records, fast delivery, First Nations employment or consulting, eco-friendly methods, specialised equipment).
A Project/Work Schedule
What is it?
A project or work schedule is an internal planning document used to organise, coordinate, and track all construction project phases. It outlines key activities, timelines, assigned responsibilities, and progress updates. While primarily used by the project team, it can also be shared with clients to provide visibility on how the project will be executed, offering reassurance and managing expectations.
Why it matters
Consider a project or work schedule to be the final ‘professional touch’ once you’ve landed a new client (in some cases, it could also be the thing that helps you close on a contract). Internally, it ensures all team members understand their responsibilities, deadlines, and dependencies. For clients, it demonstrates professionalism, transparency, and control over project delivery.
What to include
Project name, client details and overview of scope.
Key phases or project milestones.
A detailed activities task list broken down by project phase.
An expected start & end date for each task
Assigned team members or subcontractors.
Progress tracking (e.g., % complete, status updates)
Task dependencies or sequencing.
Client review points or approvals (if shared externally).
